December 30: More Christmas Presents

This sweater (a Christmas present from my parents) is so lightweight-perfect for a moderate southern California climate. I decided to pair it with my Altuzarra for Target pencil skirt for some added interest in texture and tights to cover up its immodest slit. I also wanted to feel like a boss so I wore my super comfy black patent heels. It was a very comfortable outfit that was only added to when I wore my favorite Target plaid scarf as a shawl when my workplace started to get chilly.

Sweater: Loft
Skirt: Altuzarra for Target (love the texture that my camera doesn't capture)

December 29: Christmas Presents

I was so excited to wear this outfit to work today. It was my Christmas present from my sister and demonstrates that she certainly knows what kind of clothes I like to wear. It also shows that our weather is freakishly beautiful as I wore this sans tights and with only a moderately light jacket over it. Additionally I inspired my coworker who got a spaghetti strap dress for Christmas and now wants to layer a sweater over it to make it work appropriate-so bonus!

December 26: Boxing Day

Though I'm American, I love the idea of Boxing Day but I'm 0/3 in the past three years for taking that day off from work (this year, I came so that my coworkers could be off rather than having any urgently pending work.) This was definitely one of the hardest days. I guess I'm kind of weird in that I like hearing people around me and find that motivating. I did complete everything I planned but it felt like a ghost office.

On the bright side, I did get to wear some of my Christmas goodies. The sweatshirt and jewelry are all new. I love the sweatshirt, which is reversible. The other side is Elsa from Frozen but I felt this snowflake pattern was a bit more appropriate for a very casual Friday. I also styled this with my quilted vest but since I just wore that, I left it off for the picture in order to better show the sweatshirt. It was a very comfortable outfit, I can say that!

December 18: Birthday Dress

So this is late but I've gotten so many likes on Instagram and Facebook for this dress that I had to share it here (you know, have it chronicled and saved for posterity-haha!) Again this isn't necessarily something I would have picked out for myself but it seems like people who know me like it so that always makes me like something more (yes, I'm that simple.)

Dress: Candies from Kohl's
Tights: Target probably
Boots: Forever 21
Ring: Present from friend
Bracelet: Baublebar (it's an "S" that I got myself for my birthday)
Earrings: Singapore

December 17: Birthday Sweater

This week was birthday clothing week-in this case, it was this sweater that was one of my birthday presents. I love that it's short-sleeves (perfect for southern California) and the black and white pattern is honestly not something I would have noticed on my own. My eyes tend to be drawn toward colors. I also happen to think that my hair looks pretty decent in this pictures so that's never bad :)

December 14: So this is 25

Well today is my birthday...I turned 25. It's been a really hard year for me and I'm not sure that it's over yet, making this kind of a mixed experience for me. Usually I'm very excited for my birthday but not so much this one because of the difficulties of the past year. However I am very fortunate and have had a lot of people go out of their way to make it special for me. Firstly would be my family. My parents have showered me with presents and love with my favorite dinner still to come. My sister picked out the sweatshirt I'm wearing below, revealing that everyone does indeed know how I feel about monograms (hint: I'm in favor.) I also got to spend good, relaxing time with some of my favorite people.

Tonight my Eagles take on the Cowboys-here's hoping for a win to really cap off the day!

1989: I Wish You Would

Yay-we're in the homestretch of my multi part ramblings about Taylor's album "1989." Today we're talking about the seventh track, "I Wish You Would," a song I really like. It was co-written with her friend Jack Antonoff who also collaborated with her on "Out of the Woods."

This is another song where some of the lyrics just hit me so hard. How she wishes he'd come back and how he's still thinking about her and how she'll never forget him and how "I wish you were right here, right now." Sometimes I wish so hard though I know it's not really a useful practice and is not going to result in anything.

An interesting part of the structure is her imagining what is happening at 2 AM for each party. For the first verse, he's in his car; second time around, she's in her room; but the third mention brings them together as they presumably hash everything out (in my mind, they do get back together and it is good.)

I love the playful way she sings the below lines-I feel like she had to be smiling as she sang them :)

On another note, happy 25th birthday Taylor-I'm celebrating mine tomorrow!

Next up: Bad Blood, a song surprisingly NOT about a guy.

1989: Shake It Off

Part six of seventeen in my long-winded ramblings about Taylor Swift's "1989" album. Today we are looking at the first single from the album, which ended up being the sixth track.

I remember my first time hearing this in August, which was through her livestream to make an announcement. Of course, my sister and I assumed it was news about her finally releasing her fifth album given that she had done something similar for the fourth but we couldn't be absolutely positive. It started playing and she was dancing and we weren't too sure if we liked it. Yes, I'm a huge pop fan but Taylor had seemed to be straddling the country and pop worlds, which I didn't mind. Turns out this fifth album was going to be all pop especially leaning toward the 1980s as an inspiration. Well fine by me.

Still I don't find this song to be the best representation of the music on "1989" nor is it a particular favorite of mine. Sometimes I think I don't even really like it but every time it's played, I start dancing and usually smiling. Part of what I don't like would be the lyrics which are not great. I also don't really like the rapping/speaking part, which reminds me a lot of Taylor's friend Ed Sheeran whose rapping/speaking I also tend not to like. That's obviously a very personal preference though.

It's a fun empowerment song. The lyric written on the photograph below has been especially helpful to me in difficult times-everything is going to be alright if I can just keep going.

Given that you've probably heard this song, unless you live under a rock, what do you think of it?

December 4: Eyes and Sweater

So today ended up being a pretty good day for me, most relevantly for this blog because I got four compliments on my outfit! Two of them were saying that my eyes match my sweater (this can be seen better at my instagram-see sidebar) and two on my boots, which I think are pretty much the perfect shoe because:
  1. They were very reasonably priced.
  2. They're super comfortable
  3. They go with everything and are practical to boot.
  4. They add an inch to my height.
Who could ask for anything more? I'm also pretty psyched because I'm taking tomorrow off from work to see Taylor! So it's just going to be a nice end to the week. All the best for you! Do you have a favorite pair of shoes?

December 3: Rainy Day Part II

Yay-we had another even rainier day! However this did partly mess up my fashion plans. I had originally intended to wear hot pink suede heels but decided that rain would probably ruin them. Thus my original outfit idea of neutral with a pop of color became all black and white. I also tend to think I look better with my hair down but it needed to be washed so ponytail day it was! What do you like to wear on rainy days?

December 2: Rainy Day

If you notice, the light in today's picture is a bit off. That's because instead of a glorious sunny day, we had rain and it was overcast at the usual time I take my picture. I spent yesterday anticipating the rain so I was sad that it didn't really start until later. However we are supposed to get more tomorrow which would help make up for that. I used to live in Seattle and while that was too much rain, I have been missing it in my drought-stricken area.

I also loved walking around in my coat, scarf, hat, and boots. Before the rain started, when it was just gloomy, I told my coworker that walking around like that made me feel like a Gothic heroine on the moors. (This is a positive association weirdly :)

December 1: My Luxurious Indulgence

I tend to think of myself as a pretty simple girl: one who likes to dress nicely and has an extensive wardrobe, yes, but one who doesn't buy expensive designer label items. My big indulgence though is an exceeding fondness for cashmere, what feels like the fanciest fabric around to me. How do I manage that on my budget? Well, Charter Club at Macy's usually is part of a Black Friday sale where I can get their sweaters for 70% off. This ivory sweater is actually from last year's shopping but look for my two new purchases later this week as I break out my warm clothes in earnest.

On a personal note, I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving if they're American. I had a grand time with my family. We had a magnificent feast on Thursday, did Black Friday shopping, saw "Wicked" and "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" musicals, and celebrated victory for two of our three football teams. My birthday is in less than two weeks and Christmas is soon after meaning that we have entered what is traditionally my favorite month-I hope we can end the year strong!
