January 31: Work Pajamas

By the end of the month, I just wanted to be comfortable and since it was Friday, I decided to wear what I dubbed my work pajamas. They still look like proper adult clothes but they were also super comfy. It's just an oversized sweater, jeggings, and my favorite boots. How easy is that? Then, because it's me, I added pearls.

January 30: Stripes

While pondering my closet, I realized I had this LOFT top that I'm pretty sure I've only worn once but that I wanted to try out again because I see stripes everywhere. Turning to my beloved Pinterest, I realized I had an idea on how to wear this. Now as I've mentioned before, I'm in southern California so it's been a lot warmer here than everywhere else in the country but I thought I'd give this outfit a try anyway. Luckily it ended up being a colder day for us here so I was actually pretty comfortable. Keep in mind that "cold" here is about 60 degrees with no sun peeking through! Again I wish I had accessorized better but I tend to find that bracelets and rings get in the way of my typing, which is what I spend most of my day doing so inevitably I don't wear much jewelry.

January 29: Pinterest Black and Brown

I am definitely a girl who prefers color but this fall/winter, I've been trying to keep it more low-key and muted, resulting in some different looks for me. The color combos here didn't really speak to me except for my realization that I had these basic pieces and thus could totally copy this look. One of my coworkers commented on my use of black, saying I look "bad to the bone" when I rock it-a pretty neat compliment to me! The more I wore this outfit, the more I liked it except that I ended up being too hot (sorry rest of the country but California has been very warm!) I do wish I had worn some gold bracelets but all in all, I'm pretty happy with how this turned out.

January 28: Black

I've been striving to find the perfect black work dress and I may have succeeded with this new to my wardrobe dress from Banana Republic. Will I still keep looking for black dresses? Yes, because I possibly have a problem but I don't feel the serious drive that I did before I found this one. I wasn't in the best mood so I just stuck to black.

January 27: Pop of Orange

I have really come to value my Sunday afternoons when I lay out my outfits for the work week and this week was a nice session. I look forward to showing off all my outfits. First up the inspiration comes from Pinterest. Because it's me, I changed from pants to a skirt and I don't really have an orange cardigan so I borrowed one from my mom (thanks mom!) Sorry for the light-I was late getting home.
Top: Target (this was actually a really great choice on my part-I remember debating whether or not to get this top and I'm glad I decided to go with it)

January 24: Twirl!

Yesterday I mentioned my slight online shopping habit. This is the skirt I mentioned and it is just so perfect and definitely my favorite of the items purchased in that block (yes, even over the pretty dress). I have a similar skirt but it's a bit shorter and doesn't feel as versatile so I'm very pleased to have this circle skirt in my wardrobe. For its inaugural outing to work (I actually wore it on Monday, MLK Day and thus a holiday), I wanted to keep it simple and casual. What is more basic than a white shirt and Keds? Of course, my Keds are pink with sparkle on the shoelaces and I couldn't resist adding a scarf but it's still pretty low-key for me :)

January 23: Red

I have a hard time not being an impulse buyer when online shopping so recently I bought five dresses, a skirt, and four pairs of shoes online. As of now, I'm returning two of the dresses and possibly one pair of the shoes. However this dress is definitely a keeper. It feels amazing and I think I look really good in it. Previous choices in the red dress category have been too tight and short for my style. Much as I wish to look like a leggy supermodel, I work in an office and spend most of my clothed time there (I joke that if I'm not at work, I'm in my PJs) so I need my clothes to work for me there. Because it is a bit on the chilly side in San Diego, I wore my letterman's cardigan and received a compliment thereby falling even more in love with it. I don't wear it as often as I should so a goal is to work it in to more outfits.

January 22: Argyle

I really like this cardigan but am not always sure how to style it as I find the color combination a bit tricky. My default therefore is over a white blouse with pearls, which may not be the most creative but is fitting for my work environment and makes me fill eminently professional. How would you style this cardigan?

January 21: Emerald Green

Inspiration (via Pinterest)
While planning my outfits for the week (a very beloved part of my Sunday ritual now), I remembered this bright green blazer I own and tried to think of a cool way to wear it that wasn't white shirt and jeans. Cue Pinterest, which did feature many variations on that combination but also showed the above combination of a black skirt and patterned black top. Hers has green to echo her blazer but mine is just white polka dots against a black background. I'm not enthusiastic about using these shoes but I didn't care enough to spend time on shoes. For accessories, I added some pink because I've had Wicked on my brain lately (pink goes good with green ;) I really liked this outfit because I ended up getting a compliment on it and that always improves how I feel about my clothes.

January 17: Feminizing

The motivation behind this outfit is a bit of a rambling story. In 2010, I had an internship where I was promised a drawer full of t-shirts because that's one of the things the company does; well that may be the case at their headquarters but I was working at a different location and only got two shirts to my dismay. Now I'm in my career and already I've gotten two shirts: a black polo and the shirt in this situation. When I saw it, my first thought was "this is basically the ugliest thing I've ever seen." I immediately started thinking of how I could make it cute and hit on the idea that I'd have to add so many feminine touches to make it work. I settled on a red skirt and lots of pearls along with some new wedges. I feel a lot better about the shirt, having worn it all day and realizing how comfortable it is. I think it feels like a man's shirt and I definitely plan to wear it again.

January 16: Dress and Boots

Another inspirational post! This one is weird because usually I am more inspired by a color palette but I didn't have these items in these colors so I actually just made up my own.
I have been wanting to wear a fit and flare dress with boots for a while now and something about the above picture just sparked for me so I rifled through my closet to see what might work. At first it felt weird to be wearing boots against my bare legs rather than over my skinnies but I ended up loving it and can't wait to explore my closet for more dresses that can be worn with boots!

Dress: Papaya (from my sister)
Cardigan: J. Crew
Scarf: H&M-I have no memory of getting this scarf but I that's what the tag says!

Bracelets: J. Crew Factory and Charlotte Russe
Earrings: Rue 21 (got to have some pearls!)

January 15: Gingham

I saw an adorable picture on Pinterest earlier this month and immediately knew I wanted to copy it.
Though I didn't have a contrasting necklace, I did have a gorgeous statement necklace and I think I nailed it. I did try it with the belt but it didn't quite work for me so I left the shirt untucked and just wore the outfit that way. Not sure why I'm posing like that but it seemed to make sense at the time.

January 14: Black and Navy

I don't hold much to fashion rules such as ones saying not to mix black and blue. However I haven't worn this particular outfit before because the skirt was a Christmas present. I wasn't sure how to style it for its inaugural outfit but then I hit upon wearing one of my favorite blouses and classing it up with these fairly comfortable heels. This morning I had some confusion as it looked plum to me (and still does in the picture). For some reason the light in my house turns it that color because the light at the store and work made it clear that it was midnight blue. I wish I was better at taking pictures so you could see that my top has strings that tie to a bow, I've pulled back one side of my hair with bobby pins and I'm wearing a ring on my watch hand.

What do you think? Do you like the combination of black and blue? What are your favorite shades of blue to pair with black?

January 13: Back to Work

To celebrate my return to work (yes, that is the right word as I really like my coworkers), I decided to plan out a fun week of outfits. I feel like my constant difficulty is styling separates as dresses are just so much easier so I hoped to plan a few separates instead of just wearing dresses. This was loosely inspired by a post about styling a polka dot button down. Because our weather is so lovely (thank you California!) I wore a polka dot shell and accessorized with a pretty cardigan and my signature pearls.  I feel like this came out even better than I imagined though sorry for the blurry picture.

Catching Up

So I do have a bunch of posts in backlog as well as new ones planned for this whole week but I just need to set aside the time to do something about that! I am hoping that next Monday January 20 (Martin Luther King Jr Day) will be that chance since I'm off for work. Last week I was on vacation so I don't really have any cute outfits. However I did bring my Minnie Mouse costume from Halloween and got a cute shot with Minnie though alas she decided to wear pink so we don't match :)
