December 31: Dresses

I haven't really been wearing dresses lately but I still love them. Thus I was excited to spot this dress with dresses on it at Macy's on Black Friday. I received it for Christmas and immediately started thinking about how I wanted to style it. My mom actually suggested this pretty pink cardigan though we think it would work with blue, green, white, or black as well. Pairing it with my beloved tights and low boots made everything easy. I love the way this turned out!

Story about my necklace: One of my coworkers stopped by my desk today and showed it to me saying that while it wasn't her style, it seemed to fit mine! I had read an article about having a signature style and I feel like this demonstrates that my commitment to pearls shines through :)

December 27: I'm done

By this point, I was just eager for my vacation (out of the office January 1-January 12) and wasn't really caring about what I wore. So I kept it simple, not even needing a cardigan in this gorgeous San Diego weather. This outfit could not have been easier and it was so lightweight and just what I wanted to be wearing (aside from sweats which are verboten at work, darn!)

December 26: Christmas Present

Earlier this year, I was at Target inwardly craving an embellished sweatshirt but not really swooning for any of the jeweled sweatshirts I had seen. Lo and behold, I spot this beauty which is lacy! I love lace tops but don't really have that many in my wardrobe so I easily convinced my mom that this would be a great Christmas present :) And how comfy is it? The most, making this a great option for returning to work after the holiday as I'm waiting for my vacation.

Skirt: Charlotte Russe (you can almost see that the bottom is leather-esque)
Tights: Nordstrom
Boots: Payless
Earrings and Ring: H&M pearls

December 24: Cashmere

Can't resist cashmere and since it's so freaking nice here in southern California, I just threw on a pencil skirt, my new birthday heels, and pearls. Easy-peasy! Included in this pictures is my new Target bag (birthday present). I just love the way it looks and think it is an elegant addition to my work wardrobe.

Earrings: Singapore
Purse: Merona from Target

December 23: Eagles Victory

In honor of my boys winning last night, I pulled out this shirt that I swear is the same green as their team color. It was kind of a weird outfit though because the top was incredibly static-y and the pants attract lint like no other. Yet these are not things you can see from the picture. I love the rich jewel green as a statement and think this was a great casual outfit for a holiday week at work.

December 12: Elegant Blue

Though my sister was convinced I wouldn't wear my cashmere sweaters, I soon broke out this second one in this gorgeous shade of blue (I'm pretty sure it's one of the most flattering shades on me :) The occasion was for my department's holiday party so while I wanted to wear heels, I restrained myself to flat boots because I knew I'd be running around a lot organizing things. I felt so pretty in this color as well as soft and fuzzy so it was a good luck all around.

December 10: Edgy Prep

This description was coined by my friend Natalie and it's how I now refer to some of my favorite outfits. I admit that it could be a bit more polished but I was looking to be comfy. I think part of my uniform this winter has been pretty top, black skirt, tights and low boots and this is the epitome of that look.

Top: Chambray from American Eagles
Skirt: Charlotte Russe (it never shows up on my but the bottom is leather-esque)
Tights: Nordstrom
Boots: Payless (one of my fave purchases this year)
Necklace: Pearls from ?

December 9: Gingham

Didn't really know what I wanted to wear this day so I kept it pretty simple. I can't remember if I've mentioned that I'm obsessed with cuffing my sleeves a la J.Crew but I pretty much always do that since I end up so hot in my office.

Shirt: Kohls
Skirt: The Limited
Shoes: Nordstrom Rack (old)

December 6: Casual Elegance

Trying to live up to my blog name today! I had a meeting with a retirement planner today and given that I'm frequently told I look younger than my age (this weekend my sister swore I could pull off 14 and I get a lot of guesses around 18 years of age), I wanted to dress up a bit. To that end, I wore my gorgeous new cashmere sweater and figured that would cover for anything else. I don't know if it made me look older but I sure felt pretty :)

Sweater: Charter Club Cashmere from Macy's
Scarf: Joe Fresh from JCPenney's
Pants: American Eagle Jeggings
Shoes: Charlotte Russe

December 5: Casual Day

I had no idea what I wanted to wear until I remembered how much I loved this sweater though I found it a bit difficult to style because the cream is kind of pale in front. Just to be on the safe side, I wore a beige camisole underneath so that people would focus on my pretty cream/mint sweater and suede arm patches.

December 4: Red

More gray! This time, I kept it very basic. I'm wearing a black company polo and my favorite grey pencil skirt. However to keep it interesting for you all, I took a picture of me in my red trench coat. I have gotten so many compliments on its bright hue and it's incredibly distinctive.

Jacket: Worthington from JC Penney's
Scarf: Manchester United
Shirt: From work
Skirt: The Limited
Shoes: Dexter from Payless
Headband: Charlotte Russe (I'm kind of obsessed with this.)

December 3: 1950s Poodle Skirt

To celebrate the 60th birthday of my company's CEO, we were invited to dress in the style of his birth year 1953. Personally I think we should have done the dress of his teenager years, which I suspect he has fond memories of but that would have been the 1960s and I would have wanted to wear an oversized tie-dye shirt and miniskirt and that wouldn't have met dress code. I loved seeing people in poodle skirts as well as jeans and leather jackets. Our boss was very touched by the decorations and cake and it was a fun day all in all.

Top: Petite Sophisticate
Cardigan: J.Crew
Skirt: Costume Shop

December 2: Polka Dot 40s

I wish I was a better hairstylist so I could have curled my hair into something approximately the style of the 40s. Alas I can pretty much only leave my hair down. The cut of this dress always makes me feel like I just stepped out of the 1940s. Because I am so blessed in climate, I didn't bother with tights so that also detracts from the historical vibe.

Black Friday Wrap-Up

My mom, sister, and I have a tradition of going shopping on Black Friday at our local mall. We think because of the fact that so many stores were open on Thursday, it really lowered the amount of people out on Friday. We were thankful for that as we didn't have to fight hordes of people.

My big score was some cashmere sweaters from Macy's-$40 for a crew neck sweater! As someone who just adores cashmere, this was a tremendous victory. I picked up black and blue and my mom is gifting me with a cream one.

Other soon to come presents include a pair of nude peep toe pumps and a yellow dress with dresses on it. I'm thinking of styling that with black tights but we'll see.

I'm also pleased because I completed the shopping for my mom's birthday and Christmas. My sister and dad aren't very good at presents so I was in charge of coordinating all of it. I've wrapped everything I have and just need to wait for the rest to arrive via mail (I love online shopping too!)

November 27: Tunic

I tend to be pretty anti-leggings (they're not pants) but I have fallen hard for jeggings, which are comparatively comfortable but looking slightly neater. While discussing with a coworker about how we'd love to wear sweatpants to work, I decided to see what kind of ├╝ber-comfortable outfit I could come up with. Also today was basically my Friday so what did I care ;) This outfit was kind of unique in that I knew what I wanted to wear and then went looking for a picture to "inspire" it.

<My, my lighting is not good.>

Tunic Top: Forever 21-this is actually a dark purple with a black ribbon at the waist
Scarf: Target? The tag doesn't say and I think it was a gift as I don't remember buying it
Pants: Lauren Conrad jeggings from Kohls
Boots: Payless
Earrings: very old
Bracelet: Charlotte Russe

November 26: Leather

I fell head over heels in love with this pin and was wracking my brain trying to determine what dress might work with it. I determined that this dress from Asos might be suitable. I have some other ideas I might try as I expect I'll be repeating it. As it turns out, the dress garnered three compliments and I agree that the jacket doesn't really work :/

Dress: Asos-something I love about this dress is the small slit in the front, revealing just a smidgen of skin but in an appropriate way. It also has a Peter Pan collar which is super cute and because black is slimming, I don't look too bad!
Jacket: Joe Fresh from JC Penneys
Shoes: Mossimo heels from Target
I also wore a ring and bracelet from my Charlotte Russe collection

November 25: Stripes

I've had this top for a while but had never gotten around to wearing it so I decided to look for some inspiration. I originally envisioned wearing it with jeans but this pin I saw inspired me to dress it up more. I felt very lucky to get a compliment on it. For future wearings, I'd like to try it with a slightly shorter pencil skirt (maybe above the knee, more like the inspiration) and maybe a necklace though I don't want to distract from the bow.

Skirt: Old from who knows?
Shoes: From Famous Footwear (old)
Bow Ring, Pearl Bracelet, Pearl Headband: Charlotte Russe
Bangle: Baublebar

November 22: Pink!

I adore pink-it's the stereotypical girly color and I embrace that. Though I obviously should have worn it on Wednesday, the casual nature of this outfit led me to don it for a Friday. I'm especially excited because I have picked out a pair of light pink pumps for my birthday or Christmas so that next time I wear this, I will be switching up my footwear! I also won't rewear that necklace.

Shirt: V-Neck from Everlane
Cardigan: Rue 21
Jeans: American Eagle Jeggings
Belt: Sonoma from Kohls though you can't see it
Shoes: Keds
Bracelets: Charlotte Russe
Necklace: No idea-Kohls?
Earrings: Baublebar
I was also wearing a ring but managed to break it in about 20 minutes at work so that's in the trash now.

November 21: Dress with Leather Jacket

When I saw this pin, I was super excited! I love my leather jacket and have been on the lookout for other ways to wear it. I decided to wear boots since heels would likely make my dress look too short for work and I was glad I did because it ended up raining and I would have been cold. I love the contrast of lace and leather though it did leave me singing Ashley Monroe all day.
Jacket: Joe Fresh from JC Penneys
Dress: Charlotte Russe-this is a pretty summery dress
Boots: Shoedazzle
There are probably rings and bracelets but I did not find them worth cataloguing

November 20: Mint

Since purchasing it on sale this summer, my monogrammed mint cardigan from J.Crew has become one of my favorite pieces. I try really hard not to wear it too often but it's hard to resist. And not that you can tell but my hair is up with the pearl headband as decoration. My goal is to have five hairstyles I can alternate. Currently I can do down (with or without headband), pony tail, bun, and bobby pin twist so I just need one more. Any thoughts? My hair is usually around shoulder length and is baby fine so it has no texture.

Shirt: Eddie Bauer short sleeves (old from high school job)
Cardigan: J.Crew
Khakis: Kohls
Boots: Shoedazzle-in hindsight, I wish I had worn my brown flats but I was trying to give a nod to fall; when I rewear this in spring, it will be flats
Headband: Charlotte Russe (part of my shopping extravaganza)

November 19: Blazer and Boots

On alternate Tuesdays, we have a team meeting so I usually like to try to dress up for that. I loved this picture even as it made me crave a statement bib necklace. Since I don't have one yet, I had to improvise. I'm pretty pleased with how this turned out though looking at this again, I realize I didn't need to tuck in my shirt (my work is not very formal.)

Shirt: Banana Republic-my first nice white button down shirt after frantically purchasing some in high school when I worked at a grocery store and it was part of my uniform
Blazer: Worthington from JC Penneys
Pants: Jeggings from American Eagles
Belt: Sonoma from Kohls
Boots: Payless
Bracelets and rings: Charlotte Russe
Necklace: Rue 21
Watch: Timex from JC Penneys
I'm sure I wore earrings but I have no idea what kind since my picture is not that closeup...

November 18: Black and Grey

Earlier this month, I wore a black shirt with grey pants and found myself so struck with the combo that I decided to repeat it. This is kind of a big deal because I've been trying to plan wildly different looks with variety in color combos. Ordinarily I wouldn't repeat in the same month but since no one but me really pays attention to my clothes, why not? At least every individual piece is different. I accessorized heavily (for me) because I was at Charlotte Russe where they had a sale on jewelry-I picked up a ton of rings and bracelets to spice up my looks (this ended up being a month where I spent comparatively little on clothing because I tried hard not to and because I bought accessories instead.)

Shirt: LOFT
Skirt: The Limited
Shoes: Dexter Wedges from Payless
Jewelry: Bracelets and rings from Charlotte Russe giftsets
Earrings: Eagles in honor of their victory

November 15: Lace and Boots

I didn't really know what I wanted to wear to end the week and I didn't want to go too casual so I think this is a great compromise. Of course, it's insanely comfortable because I'm wearing jeggings but the lace and blazer dress it up. Plus I adore any chance to break out my boots. I just wish I had worn some chunky bracelets to more closely match the inspiration photo and I also would have liked to have worn a necklace, something I completely forgot to add. For the last picture, I was joined by a frequent companion.

with cat :)

Blazer: JC Penneys
Pants: AE Jeggings
Boots: Payless

November 14: Romanticism

I love these heels and they're actually pretty comfortable except for one part where it rubbed against my left toe. This time, I was prepared with a band-aid over that area.

What really drew me about this look was that it was sort of romantic except not as I wore this to work in a business casual environment. I pulled my hair back and added some pretty gold touches in my jewelry/accessories. And I got several compliments on the shoes. I think for the future, Thursdays will be Everlane tee day as this is the second week in a row where I wore one on that day.

Shirt: Everlane
Skirt: Target
Belt: Not sure
Shoes: ShoeDazzle heels
Necklace: Gold chain from Kohls?
Bracelet: Daisy Chain from J. Crew Factory

November 13: Taylor Swift

For some reason, it is still quite warm in the San Diego area, much to my dismay. All I want to do is wear three layers (collared shirt, sweater, blazer, etc.) and I can't because I end up just being too hot. So I am pleased to incorporate a sweater in to this look while staying cool in the shorter skirt. T. Swift is my favorite musical artist and I always envy her gorgeous skirts and dresses; I really love her Keds collaboration, finding it very worthy of emulation. Though I am wearing flats here, I do wish I had matching Keds to rock (not that I could wear them to work on a Wednesday.)

Top: J. Crew Factory
Skirt: Forever 21
Shoes: YesWalker
Necklace and Bracelet: Pearls from who knows?

November 12: Leopard

I originally planned to wear this last week but events conspired to get in the way. I wore it this week and felt so sneaky because I'm actually wearing jeggings aka the most comfortable pants. But they don't really look like jeggings so I also got away with it :) Again I need to work on my photographs because you can't really tell that my shirt is peplum nor can you distinguish the details on my boots.
The inspiration

Top: Target
Blazer: Worthington from JCPenney's
Pants: Lauren Conrad from Kohl's-these are the  most comfortable pants I can imagine.
Boots: ShoeDazzle
Earrings: Probably Kohls?

November 11: Blue

Some people got Veterans Day off but I was not one of those people. Instead I wore mostly blue and white including my lovely new gingham shirt. It didn't photograph well but I knew what I was wearing. As a lucky resident of southern California, I know I am very fortunate to have great weather, which results in my constantly rolling up the sleeves of my collared shirts; this is no exception and yes I do follow the J. Crew guide for cuffed sleeves.
Top: Chaps from Kohls
Scarf: New York and Company
Pants: Joe Fresh from JC Penney's
Belt: From a Boohoo dress (surprisingly matches my shoes)
Shoes: Mossimo from Target
Necklaces: Pearls from who knows; Gold Monogram from Baublebar (not that you can see)
Earrings: Eagles in celebration of their victory

November 8: Stripes

Yay-what a way to end the week! I wasn't sure what I was going to wear and originally didn't plan to post anything but I decided to rock this and I love the way it turned out.

Top: H&M (originally from my mom who generously gifted it to me after seeing how much I loved it.)
Blazer: Charlotte Russe (picked out by my very fashionable sister-has a peplum)
Pants: Jeggings from AE (seriously the most comfortable pants ever)
Belt: The main belt I wear and so so broken in
Shoes: Mossimo from Target (my new ones, bought on Monday)
Necklace: Mix of (fake) pearls and diamonds

Thursday, November 7, 2013

November 7: Skirt

I had originally planned to wear something else but we had clients coming in so I had to switch it up a bit. I do work in a pretty casual office, thankfully! Though it does not photograph, my skirt is actually a hunter green though I keep thinking it's olive green as in the inspiration picture. Also seeing that, it makes me wish we were getting some rain though none is in our forecast.

Top: Everlane
Blazer: Worthington from J.C. Penney's
Scarf: Probably Target
Skirt: Asos
Tights: Nordstroms?
Boots: Payless

November 6: Princess Kate

I got so excited when I saw this picture because it immediately encouraged me to wear my polka-dot blouse while also paying tribute to the gorgeous new mama. I wasn't sure what cardigan to wear but I feel like this one works and it was the inaugural outing for these shoes which I hadn't been wearing for some reason.

Blouse: LOFT-not that it photographed well-I promise, there are polka dots
Cardigan: SO from Kohls
Jeggings: American Eagle
Shoes: Charlotte Russe-they have little bows on them but they're a bit more masculine
Ring: Sears-it's attempting to copy Diana/Kate's ring
Earrings: Not sure but they're very tiny pearls
